This hero of World War II needs no introduction. It was produced in greater numbers than any other British combat aircraft. It could hit speeds of 370mph and reach an altitude of 40,000 feet.
Designed and built for war, it was at the forefront of Britain’s defence in 1939/1940 and it played a major part in achieving victory in 1945.
2016 Marks the 75th Anniversary of the Avro Lancaster.
The first production model Lancaster flew in 1941 and it was the mainstay of the British night-time bombing offensive over Germany.
A total of 7,377 Lancaster aircraft were built between 1941 and early 1946.
