With just a day to go to the annual air festival in Weston-super-Mare, the final touches are being made to make this year’s event bigger and better than ever. The festival is one of the highlights of the summer calendar and last year’s event saw about 170,000 people pack the seafront. This year’s event takes place alongside the Armed Forces weekend and three nights of live music at the Tropicana.
The Red Arrows are returning to the event for the fourth year running on Saturday to perform their spectacular precision flying display, complete with trademark formations, close passes and dynamic loops and rolls. This year the festival will also feature RAF Eurofighter Typhoon, a twin-engine fighter plane, for the first time. The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight – Spitfire and Hurricane, Breitling Wing Walkers, De Havilland Sea Vixen and Team Raven Formation display are among some of the other airborne acts over the weekend.
The running order and times for flights are now available on the Flights page.
Down on the ground there will also be static helicopter displays on the Beach Lawns. Fun fair rides, trade stands and activities such as mini tanks, a zip-wire and giant inflatables.
During the weekend the Beach Lawns will also be packed with military exhibitions and displays to mark Armed Forces Weekend, jointly organised with Weston Town Council. Following the flag raising ceremony, there will be marching displays and performances from military bands.
Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening will also see the first Westside Proms event at the Tropicana featuring the Wonderstuff, 10cc, Boulevard Swing and many others. Visit http://www.evenmoore.co.uk for further information.
